Most contractors leave a job broom-clean: the debris is gone and the floor is swept. But anyone who has lived through a remodel knows the dust doesn't stop there. Drywall sanding and cutting produce an extremely fine powder that drifts into every room and settles on every surface, including the inside of closed cabinets.
A post-construction cleaning starts at the top. Ceiling fans, light fixtures, vents, and the tops of door frames and cabinets are cleaned first, so the dust that falls lands on surfaces that haven't been cleaned yet. Then walls, trim, and baseboards are wiped down.
Next come the details that make new work look finished: stickers and labels removed from windows and fixtures, paint specks cleaned off glass and hardware, and window tracks and sills vacuumed and wiped. Cabinets and drawers are cleaned inside and out before anything goes back in.
Floors are cleaned last. Hard floors usually need more than one pass to lift the fine dust, and carpets need thorough vacuuming along the edges where dust collects.
The best time to schedule post-construction cleaning is right after the last trade finishes and before you move furniture back in. Lucy's Cleaning Services handles post-construction cleaning for homeowners, contractors, and builders across North Phoenix and Scottsdale.
